ATEX Cable Reels

ATEX Cable Reels are designed for safe and reliable power distribution in hazardous gas environments (Zone 1 and Zone 2). They provide flexible temporary power supply while fully complying with explosion protection requirements.

Certified under PTB 20 ATEX 1009 and IECEx PTB 20.0015, the CR-series ensures safe operation in demanding industrial environments where explosive atmospheres may occur.

Built with a stainless-steel enclosure, conductive EPDM spool and Ex-e terminal compartment, these cable reels are engineered for durability, safety and long service life.

ATEX Cable Reels – Safe Power Distribution in Hazardous Areas

ATEX cable reels are used for temporary or mobile power supply in explosive gas atmospheres where standard industrial cable reels are not permitted. They are typically applied during maintenance, inspection, shutdown operations or temporary installations in refineries, chemical plants, offshore facilities and process industries.

The CR series is certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 (Gas) and marked:

  • II 2G Ex db eb IIC T6 Gb
  • Rated voltage up to 690 V
  • Rated current up to 32 A
  • Protection class IP65 (correctly assembled)

Construction and Safety Design

Unlike standard cable reels, ATEX models are engineered to prevent ignition sources. The CR series features:

  • Welded stainless-steel enclosure
  • Increased safety Ex-e terminal chamber
  • Conductive EPDM spool body
  • Pivot bearing system for industrial handling
  • IEC 60309 compliant flange sockets

All connections are made within the explosion-protected enclosure to ensure compliance with EN IEC 60079-0, EN 60079-1 and EN IEC 60079-7.

Available Models

The ATEX cable reel range includes:

  • CR17 – Compact solution with 170 mm spool diameter, typically 16A configuration
  • CR27 – Larger industrial model with 270 mm spool diameter, available with multiple 16A sockets or single 32A configuration

Cable length, plug configuration and socket configuration can be selected depending on application requirements.

When to Use an ATEX Cable Reel

ATEX cable reels are required when:

  • Working in classified gas hazardous areas
  • Supplying temporary power during shutdown or service
  • Connecting portable equipment in Zone 1 or Zone 2
  • Operating in oil & gas, chemical, pharmaceutical or marine industries
